The Pussycat Dolls: Arms, Legs, and Breasts
This entry was posted on September 2, 2008
I’ve been watching some Pussycat Dolls music videos recently. It might be the inner conservative in me (heck, I didn’t even know that I had an inner conservative), but are they really supposed to be attractive? They’re undeniably very beautiful women (Carmit excluded, as her face looks as though it’s been run over by a bulldozer), they obviously have incredibly toned dancers bodies, and they know how to move…but really, are they supposed to be attractive?
It’s their outfit choices I think. I’m actually surprisingly a huge conservative when it comes to clothing. I believe that as a woman, you choose one of three features to accentuate when you dress - either arms, legs, or breasts. Not two, and certainly not three - you choose one to show off, and cover up the other two. Leave something to the imagination, as the more you cover up to begin with, the more titillating the sight of skin in a more intimate setting.
The wardrobe choices of the Pussycat Dolls (more accurately, the choices of their stylist) doesn’t exactly leave a lot to the imagination. Don’t they realise that less is more is a false phrase in the case of clothing?

Take the above image as an example. Now, as I like to think of this as a scientific study of their outfit choices and the concept of calculated flaunting of arms/legs/breasts, place refer to the following table:
| Jessica Sutta | Ashley Roberts | Nicole Scherzinger | Melody Thornton | Carmit Bachar | Kimberley Wyatt | |
| Arms | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Legs | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Breasts | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
Isn’t it clear that they just show too much of everything? I can’t imagine anyone who won’t eventually become desensitised to that much bared skin - the more you see it, the more you dispassionately view it, and it’ll never be erotic again. For a dance/music troup that trades on their eroticism, they’re sure not going about maintaining it in a way that’ll guarantee longevity in the industry.
Of course with all this said, I’m still going to blast their music when I’m home alone, and dance around, gradually shedding items of clothing as I get my freak on. It’s excellent arse-shaking music, and I’m the type of girl that likes to shake her arse.
Today’s post is with much thanks to Amanda. Personally I love the Pussycat Dolls, but I do agree with what Amanda is saying here.

I thought women accentuate breasts, waist, ass? *shrugs* Well, you sound quite right in this post. But I usually listen to their music without watching them dance so when I do see them move, I still always think ’sexy’.
The Pussycat Dolls make music?! Now stop bothering me with such lies while I continue staring at that photo…
The girls themselves don’t have any say in what they wear. They’re told how to look, act and what to say by their label. It’s pure marketing. The music that’s written and composed for them (as if they make any of that themselves; even their vocals are computer adjusted later on) is supposed to be aimed at girls to bring in that market, and their scantily clad perfect bodies are aimed at the guys in order to bring in another market. All of this is done for the benefit of the label, artistic and musical integrity has disappeared. Bands like this are pretty much just get-rich-quick schemes for label fatcats, and they certainly don’t care about the longevity of the band. Once this stuff becomes passe the label will drop them and create another band; there are always other girls willing to shake their asses on TV just to be famous and make some money. Look at Girlicious.
It’s pure marketing Rachael. You can’t expect a group of hot girls named Pussycat Dolls who sing about being hot and everything that comes along with it to be all covered up and conservative.
Reply: Enzo, don’t tell me, tell Amanda! This is her blog entry.
It took me a couple reads of the last paragraph to realise that she wrote it. I thought you were just thanking her in general! Maybe put it up the top of the post? I read it differently now I know you didn’t write it.
Horrible music. Great bodies. I get what you’re saying but I have NO problem with them losing some more of their clothing.
but that’s me being a guy.
Everytime I hear a song (if you can call it that) from PCD i absolutely can’t stand it. Not even a bit. But then.. listening to the radio, television, or out at clubs, i start to love every single song. And start to sing along.. oh gosh.
It’s like they are brainwashing me. Creepy.
So true, it really is much much more sexy if you’re more covered up, like a short long sleeved dress that flaunt your legs.
I know I wouldn’t walk out of my house looking like that even if I had the body to do so. I get plenty of looks and asking out. Yes, I may be modest but that sure doesn’t stop the men from asking me out.

I really don’t like the Pussycat Dolls, but sometimes they get me. Like with “Beep.” I had a very flamboyant friend obsessed with that song, and soon, I became obsessed as well. And “When I Grow Up,” is my current getting-ready song.
