I used to be so clever

When I was in school I did something called the Morrisby Profile, which is “an integrated set of twelve paper and pencil tests which assess aptitude and work based personality.” I got some pretty good results but forgot about them until today when my Mum found the paperwork.

Let’s take a look at my results!

As you can see, my strengths were definitely in things relating to numbers. I always was a bit of a Maths nut, even if I did fail miserably at certain things. I once worked out a probability at 117, when it’s impossible for the answer to be anything higher than 1!

I’m quite proud of how well I did in this profile. I think of myself as a “frustrated” genius. Well, I’m not so much of a “genius”, I’m more… someone that has a fair amount of intelligence but doesn’t always get to use it as much as I’d like.

I wonder what would happen if I took the same test again today. My numerical skills definitely wouldn’t be that high! I can barely manage mental arithmetic these days. Maybe I just need some practice? I’d like to think that my confidence / inner conviction would be higher! I don’t have a huge ego at all, but… I don’t think I’m that retarded.

Other graphs and whathaveyou can be found in the Morrisby Profile set on my Flickr.

Those ARE good scores - did you have to study for that math test? Math tests are the tests that I dread the most, because it’s so easy to make a silly mistake (at least for me it is).

You aren’t retarded, Rachael. :) Congrats on those scores. But no matter what the test says, you seem to be enjoying/doing well with blogging, web design, and such.

Wow good work on the maths skills. I have none of those. As soon as numbers are involved my brain goes into meltdown.

It makes me sad to think of how well I did in school, and how… well, to put it lightly, dumb I am now. :( The problem is, without school marks to prove to others that I actually AM clever, my intelligence gets lost behind… oh, the song and dance numbers that pepper my day-to-day goings on, probably. :P At the same time, I am a know-it-all, so, I often come up with random tidbits of information at odd moments. This causes people who don’t know me well to become surprised, where as my close friends just roll their eyes at me. :)

I did that test not too long ago. Not many people liked it that much because they complained about it not being very representative of them.

I was ill on the day I took mine and had horrible headaches =[ So I didn’t do as well as I could have done. My scores were alright though.

You’re scores are absolutely fantastic, well done on those =D I stand by what I’ve been telling people for months: I think we get dumber as we get older! My friends agree because our grade averages have started going down even though the material we’re learning isn’t really that hard.

Ha, that reminds me of how my intelligence, or at least the use of my intelligence has rapidly decreased since I dropped maths and physics. Or really, since I entered the senior end of college. Urgh.

I’m sure you could get equally high scores if you practise mental arithmetic - or so I’d like to think cos that theoretically means I could gain my numerical abilities back. Funny how you solved that probability question though… it’s not as bad what I’ve done, I remember trying to do probability and getting something in the thousands when the answer was no more than 1. Wonder why the answer is always actually so low :/.

Reply: It’s because when expressing a probability as a decimal, it has to be between 0 and 1. 1 = 100% = certain. 0 = 0% = impossible. Chances can’t be more likely than certain. ;)

I was thinking something extremely similar about myself! Back when I was in first grade, my teacher contacted my parents and told them to take me to a psychologist so I could get some psychometric (I.Q.) tests done, because apparently I was off-the-charts smart or something. After I took the tests, the psychologist recommended I either get skipped a grade or attend a Magnet School for the gifted! In the end I got skipped a grade and I adjusted fine, but once I got to university I sort of forgot about it…

I don’t know; I know I’m smart, but I don’t feel I’m living up to my full potential, mostly because I need to feel extremely challenged to do something or else I get bored and slack off. I also started focusing on other things and well… that’s that. I want to be a child prodigy again, dammit! LOL =P

I did a Morrisby profile too! Although my numerical ability came out rubbish (no surprise there).
Looks like you got a few similar career suggestions to me. Mine were:

1. Product Designer
2. Mechanical Engineer
3. Chemical engineer
4. Consruction engineer
5. Website Designer and Manager :D

Ooh, look at you, genius! :D

All that math talk I don’t understand. My head can barely comprehend numbers, I hate math with a passion. XD However, I do highly respect those who have the ability to grasp math things…so w00t! :D

I wish I was so good at maths!
Some people are just naturally amazing at it.
I had to work my arse off to keep my head above water in top set maths. My talent lies with spelling :/

MMM I see that they’ve stop printing the bars off the page… I did mine 3/4 years ago, was actually pretty similar to yours!

You’re still on the genius level in my opinion.
I think its quite a talent to be able to work with maths..
Don’t tell anyone but I don’t mind a lot of it because I know I’m either right or wrong, there are straight answers instead of the twisty curvy interpretations I get in english and music.

I have to admit I don’t tend to study though and uh.. Well as you can tell I don’t really pay attention in maths either because here I am.. Sitting in class and I’m commenting on your blog..

Oh well.

Woah.

Those are some awesome results.

Mine were pretty good too.
My spatial and numerical went off the charts.
Literally.

I think my brains deteriorating cause im not as smart as i was before.

note: i took the test a year ago.
