Blog Advertizing » May 29th, 2008 · See comments
I received an email today from someone called Elmer, offering me blog sponsorship. I’m all for being paid to do something I love, but being sponsored to blog? That’s not something I’d be interested in, to be honest. I can’t help but feel it would give off the wrong “vibe” to my blog.
When I see sponsored blog posts on other blogs, I feel like the sponsorship affects the way the blogger writes; it has an influence on them, and that’s not an influence I like seeing. I want to read 100% honest blog posts, not an opinion that can be swayed by something so trivial as money.
So, whilst it was nice to hear from you, Elmer, I’m afraid I’m going to have to refuse your offer, and not just because your website is weird and you can’t spell “advertising”. The same goes for anyone else who wants to sponsor me to blog. Feel free to give me money (I wouldn’t say no to that!) but don’t try and “sponsor” me to say what you want me to say.
LOL, I was going to correct your title spelling until I read your post in full. XD I’ve gotten ad offers and what-not before, but I’m with you on this.
A personal, ad-free blog is much more enjoyable to read than one with ads everywhere. That includes crap from PayPerPost-type blogs. Talk about decreasing the value of content.
Yay for you!
I think that it would feel strange to have my “personal” blog sponsored, but I don’t really mind ads and things (as long as they’re tastefully displayed) on other people’s sites.
But posting dishonest smuck in order to rack in cash is shameful!
Yer, I got one of those a while ago as well. Nasty, horrible things. Especially with some of the new ones that explicitly say you can’t mention that the post was sponsored…
I have like a “two strikes” policy on PPP. The first time I see one in a blog, I ignore it. The second time, I unsubscribe from the feed and never return. D:
Yeah good on you. I agree it does effect the blogs written and I would rather read someones honest opinions then something they are pretty much being paid to write.
Good for you!I’m pleased that money can’t buy everything.
It would make you a blogstitute, and that ain’t nice!
Open source and open minds!
LOL at “advertizing”. That person can’t be for real.
I’ll sponsor you, and you can write whatever you want. *hugs*
I too, was going to correct your spelling at first. =P Yea, I never trust e-mail that has basic grammar/spelling errors…
Your post reminded me about a site that had the same “mission”, so to speak. Ad-Free Blog. I don’t know how “active” the place is…I’d made a smaller button for them back in the day and I don’t think it’s up. *checks* Yea, no, it’s not. =P
Still, lovely post, and I agree with you. Corporate America is slithering all over the place >.<!
I got the same email! Ignored it too…giving up more than you receive definitely isn’t -true- blogging. Good on you.
Wascilly wabbits.
Whenever you are sponsored, a certain type of obligation arises. I mean when you receive a gift you have to somehow own up to it.
Often I feel like I sort of forced Beth to change her ways of looking at web design, when I offered to host her. After all, hosting is sponsorship… but then she doesn’t complain although I now keep telling her to do what she wants XP
Way to stick to your values!
No money can push you down.
I totally agree. Having to skip over blog entries that seem to just want to sell you something is tiring. Whenever I come across one, I just end up clicking out of it.
Talk about selling out!
LOL! Good for you, yeah, people who run sites with poor spelling are always a giveaway for scams.
