Are you musical?
This entry was posted on May 19, 2008
It’s no secret that I love music. Music is probably my biggest passion in the whole world (yes, even more than front end web development). I truly believe that music makes the world go round.
I play various musical instruments, and I listen to music heaps as well. I try to go to as many live music shows as I can realistically afford, and I spend far too much time / money in HMV.
My favourite music is often produced by five-piece male-fronted rock bands, such as My Chemical Romance, Avenged Sevenfold, Simple Plan, and Good Charlotte, though I’m also a bit partial to solo stars such as Ashley Tisdale, Rihanna, Britney Spears, and Michael Buble. What can I say - I have a broad taste in music!
Recent artists I’ve been enjoying are Marilyn Manson, The Subways, and the cast of High School Musical. I even have a playlist with those three artists on. “Bet on it” sits quite happily next to “Long hard road out of hell” on my iPod.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but I have a last.fm profile. All my music is “scrobbled” there, but I don’t have enough friends. I’m always looking to find new music I might enjoy, so recommend me something - I’m open to anything.
(And yes, I also want to have more friends than Jem because it was me who introduced her to last.fm and I’m miffed that she has more friends than me.)

Having a broad taste in music is a great thing
Just imagine how much more music you can enjoy than those who only listen to one genre.
I could give you some suggestions, but I don’t know if you’re into 80’s metal = what I listen to most of the time ![]()
We’re already friends.
I think I have quite a broad taste in music. I listen to many genres, including classical music, and I listen to music in over 5 languages. I’m always searching for good (unknown) bands and last.fm is a great resource for that.
I already gave you some suggestions, but if you need any more, just ask. ATM (well, it’s been going on for quite some time now) I love French rock. Téléphone, BB Brunes, Indochine, Noir Désir and the like. I think you’d like them.
This week I fell in love with Lenny Kravitz’s song, I’ll Be Waiting. It’s a great ballad.
I’m the same way — I also play various instruments, and I like to think I have a *somewhat* broad taste in music. I’ll listen to almost anything, but I’m partial to alternative, rock, and some soundtracks. I’ll gladly add you on last.fm (user: mdolcezza), but you should probably know that I have never used it, have very little idea how to use it, and do not care for using it. ![]()
I like to think that my taste in music is very broad as well, and I’m always open to new music. I will listen to anything, although my main genre of music is alternative and rock. I’m not musically talented, though. I can’t play an instrument to save my life. Although I am pretty good on the drums when playing Rock Band! ![]()
I have been a massive music fan for as long as I remember. I am one of those people who when you tell people what music you like they respond with “who?”
I have only just got into Last.fm because I never played a lot of music through my computer. But now I can stream it to my stereo using an Airport Expresss (Airtunes), I am loving Last.fm. Look out for a friend request!
I added you as a friend on there, so don’t feel sad. ![]()
Music has probably been the basis of my life ever since I was 3. I listen to everything as well, and I try to look for unknown bands who need some love and show their talent to the whole world
I’m gonna add you in last.fm! ![]()
I play clarinet which got me into classical music, and saxophone which got me into jazz, haha. I think playing those instruments made me realise there’s more than just the one type of music out there, haha.
It’s good that you have a variety in what you listen to; there’s more songs you can listen to and it means that if you come across someone who’s dedicated to the one music type you can hold up a conversation
I can’t add you seeing as I never use my Last.fm. I just think it takes too long to load! iTunes is my Last.fm ![]()
I heart music, you can never take it away from me Rachael! NEVER!!! LOL ![]()
Music rocks. =P I have Last.fm too, but I really can’t be bothered to try get friends on it or anything. I just wanted something similar to Pandora in order to discover new bands. If you wanted me to add you though, I’d be happy to.
Apparently I’m medium compatability with you. Literally all the artists I listen to, you listen to too. Congrats. xD
I like listening to music, and I even have last.fm. I only have one friend, though, and… I’ve never used it? I just made the account. ![]()
Wow your taste in music sounds even broader than mine! ![]()
Lol at Marilyn Manson and High School Musical! ![]()
I don’t have a lastfm profile because I hate having to remember stuff… but I couldn’t imagine life without music either.
For me it’s mostly the dance, as a genre but not limited to. I can listen to any kind of music (aside slipknot… brrr they give me the creeps).
But I generally like the bouncy kind: they perk me up ![]()
I also just loooove music. I like electronic music the most but I’m opened to everything. Electronica, IDM, drumNbass, trip-hop, funk, ambiental, easy-tempo, jazz, raggae, dub, brit-pop, hardcore rock, industrial, techno and some deep house. In my spare time I also play with an Akai synth, a Korg drum machine and some software. Sometimes I mix some music for parties with my friends, but nothing big. MUSIC makes the WORLD goes round !
I have a last.fm acct. I go by fukaliciouskorn. And Marilyn Mason is eye candy. ![]()
MCR kills people, didn’t you know?
KIDDING. Music FTW! ![]()
Oh look, 56 friends now :3
I’s definitly say I have a broad taste in music…
On my playlist right now, I have everything from, oldies like The Shirelles and The temptations, to some old school rock like Led Zeplin and some Paul Simon, I have some random 80’s like Eddie Money, Human League, I have electronica like Aphex twin, Tiesto and DJ Doboy, I have some Phantom of the Operah, I have some R&B/Dance like Justin Timberlake, Snoop, Rhianna, Mariah and Beyonce.. I have alternative like Weezer, The Postal Service and Death Cab.. some emo stuff like Fall Out Boy and panic at the disco.. some folk/country like Blue Rodeo, Dixie Chicks, and some female singer songwriters like Ani DiFranco and Regina Spektor.. so yah.. my mp3player is pretty diverse. And i just keep it on random all the time ^^
i dont use LAST cause i don’t find them all that accurate, but i love imeem, so if you ever make a profile there, lemme know.
I listen to music almost 24/7. It’s actually quite common for me to fall asleep with my headphones on
Broad taste in music is definitely nothing but a positive thing! I rarely say I hate a certain genre of music, because you never know
I personally listen to everything from oldies to alt. rock to electronic to more pop-ish stuff. At the moment, I’m most into sort of folk rock/indie/singer-songwriter stuff like Rufus Wainwright and Sufjan Stevens (both worth checking out!).
According to last.fm, we don’t have any artists in common. Boo.
Broad music taste is best~
Music really does make the world go round. I can’t live without it, I need to listen to music as much as I can, every day.
I’m on last.fm too, but most songs I listened to yesterday aren’t showing up on my profile so it looks like I hardly use it.
LOL @ friend wars. ^^
I don’t know if you’d be interested or not, but I’m actually making a blog about music. =) It’s separate from my various other blogs and hopefully, will contain music rather different from the norm (well, most of it will probably not be in English…although it’s not omitted, it’s just that I feel there are plenty of sites reviewing English music already. But if I come across something I really like, I definitely blog it.)
Novel-type paragraphs aside, I’ll have to check out last.fm…I’ve heard of it but never actually bothered to find out what it is.
First, thanks for the compliment via my test post that will be deleted as soon as I finish my layout.
Second, I’ll add you, because I’m cool like that.
Third, if you don’t already listen to New Found Glory, go do so. Because they are amazing.

You’re already my friend.
I wrote about my music tastes a few days ago as well. I quite honestly like at least one song from every genre I ever heard of.
