A bit of a change » April 28th, 2008 · See comments
I’ve always been a fan of major re-vamps, and I’m constantly trying to improve my site. I’ve spent the last few weeks agonising over this layout, trying to refine it as much as possible. I’m pretty pleased with how it has turned out. Loading times should be fairly low due to the fact that it’s image-free (I really wanted to experiment with CSS).
You should notice a few major changes already on the site. My footer is now more useful than it was before, and I have a magically-changing sidebar for each page (thanks to a shed load of code, and Melissa’s tutorial).
The layout is good to go now (as far as I can tell) – all that remains is to start adding new content!
IT’S LEFT ALIGNED! *cries*
1) It’s hot. 2) You’re hot. 3) I’m hot. 4) All the CB visitors are hot.
I think we’re all ready for summer!
Yay new layout! I like this much more than the last because of the larger font making for much comfortable reading. I think it’s cute, but I’m unsure as to how the left-alignment would look in large screens?
You already know how much I love this redesign, I’ll say it again though… I LOVE IT!
It’s so clean and fresh, I’m amazed how you managed to not use a single image, my hat comes off to you for that one.
It’s rocksome!
YAAAAAAAAAAAY! I love the colors and the organization.
Neato! I love how you’re the only website thats in my Feed Reader that makes Georgia look good! <3
This is nice! When I grow up I’m going to be able to make sites with css!
Still prefer the theme/layout you had when I first found CB, it had a banana in it for a start!
I love it, so so much. It’s beautiful! The alignment is sexy. I’m so surprised it’s actually quite funny.
How’s about changing the h4 styling a bit in the footer? It kind of blends in with the rest of the text.
In case you were wondering why I keep visiting your site over and over, it is because I am a stalker.
I like it. Great work as always Rachael.
It’s nice. I love the colors, the footer, and the dynamic sidebar.
Now, I’m inspired to work on my site. Yay!
I LOVE IT!
I love the grey and pink!
I am digging this new layout.
I love your footer
, but I’d also suggest you make the sub-headers (especially Twitter – my current status, and Network – my other sites) bolder, or at any rate differentiate them a bit more from the regular text.
I told you I like it a lot, though it’s still unusual in its left aligned-ness
I like it.
Very much! (And you might guess that I have checked it already in weird browsers
.)
But the links in sidebar (like tags, similar posts, special people etc…). Well I guessed that they were links, but could there be difference between them and normal text?
Very nice indeed Rachael. Love the colours. I agree that in a world of center-aligned sites and blogs, the left alignment takes some getting used tom but very well done, its smashin’
I love Aisling’s comment (the first one)!
I’m not sure about the left aligning, though.
I like it!
The only thing I have a problem with is that it’s left aligned.. Not one of my favourite things, but you pulled it off!
I like the color scheme, but I, too, find the left alignment thing a bit odd. My eyes generally tend to focus on the center of things. I also agree with what’s been said about yuor footer. All the white text… it would be easier to read if the headers were a different color or style or something. Also, your Twitter updates kind of seem all scrunched together. What about turning that into a bulleted list or show fewer updates so there is more room to space them out? I’m really loving your shade of gray though.
I like but think it would be better if it was centered. There’s a huge chunk of nothingness on my screen (1400×900)
Also, the sidebar looks a little out of place. I really like the colors and the organization though.
It’s left aligned, yet actually awesome. I really like it considering it has no images, which is also pretty awesome. I’ll have to get used to the grey section on the right of my screen, but overall, not bad!
Applause, please.
I’m temporarily coming out of blog stalking hibernation in order to comment on how wicked this layout is.
Well done!
P.S. Your new ‘about me’ photograph is really cute!!
I like it, except for the fact that it is left aligned.
Like some other people, the left alignment is the only thing that’s throwing me off. Everything else is terrific, though!
At first I didn’t like it. But after a third view, hiding and unhiding my bookmarks on the left side of the screen, I’ve decided I frigging love it.
I love this, but I agree with those that have commented on the alignment of this layout. Other than that, it’s really cute!
Very chic — I’m loving the footer! =]
The headers are awesome! And I didn’t know I had Cambria on my computer…new font! I might just have to use it in the near futrure.
No images is fine, just tiny pixel icons for posts, would be the only thing.
Ohh I loved what you’ve done with CB! The colors are amazing
It looks fantastic, Rachael! My only issues are the left alignment which looks a little silly, the fact that you are showing far too many Twitters in your footer, and the headers in the footer blend in too much!
All in all, fantastic!
*follows you on Twitter*
I notice WDF isn’t in you blogroll…tut tut
Love the design bTW.Clean, classic and gorgeous – just like me.
Anyhoo, which plugin do you use for your Flickr feed?
wow~! i really love it! i’m going to go against the grain here, i think the left alignment is cool. i love the colors. and i think i need to second Aisling w/ the whole it’s hot/you’re hot thing. ./cheers
I love how awesome your layout is.
Clean, simple and image free!!
I like it! I would have preferred a centered layout, but it looks good!
WOW! this is amazing! Superb job!
I’m soooo jealous!
