More LG Viewty tips and tricks

I get a fair amount of traffic from people in search of information on the LG Viewty. Let’s tackle some of the most popular searches and try and help some people out.

Viewty mac software

As far as I know, the Viewty software is only compatible with windows. It also comes on a tiny disc which might get eaten up by your Mac. However, you can tell the Viewty to behave like a USB memory stick, which should work with the majority of OSs out there, including Mac.

Viewty software

LG will tell you that their software is great. As a viewty user, I will tell you that their software is awful. It doesn’t offer much more functionality than by using the viewty as a plain ol’ memory stick, and I don’t mind sacrificing that functionality for the sake of usability.  The software crashed every single time I tried to use it.

Deleting text message with the viewty

One of the features the viewty doesn’t have is an obvious way to delete all text messages. However, all hope is not lost. By clicking what I call the “right click” button (or what you might call “the button in the bottom left with the three horizontal lines on it”), it’ll bring up a list of options. Scroll down to “Mark/Unmark” and it’ll turn your inbox into a list with radio buttons. Check the radio button right at the top of the screen (next to “Inbox”) and then hit the “delete” button down at the bottom. That’s how you can delete all your text messages!

Viewty delete key

The delete key on the viewty is actually a button (surprisingly). At the bottom of the handset you have a green phone icon, a red phone icon, and a central button which looks like a “C”. That central button is the delete button. What looks like the touch-screen delete button is actually a “return to previous” button. This feature seems to be a problem for a lot of people - I know I first got confused the first time I used my viewty and tried to delete text on it.

Viewty O2 button

This button on the homescreen of the viewty is the easiest way to access your web browser. The long way is “menu” -> “extras” -> “O2 active” -> home. I’ll cover some of the features of the web browser at a later date.

If you have an LG Viewty, I hope this helped. If you don’t have an LG Viewty, I highly recommend you go and get one. They’re much more user-friendly than an iPhone, and I’m not just saying that because I hate Apple. I’m actually a massive Apple fan. Let that demonstrate how fiddly the iPhone is.

I went into my sister’s room about five minutes after reading this post and she was looking at the viewty on some website, she’s rather fond of it methinks. Shame her contract doesn’t end until another year :P

Me? I’m not keen on snazzy phones at all really as long as they look semi-nice, can send/receive phone calls and texts. It does look cool, though.

You Europeans and your fancy phones. :P Us Americans get crap for cellphones (and T-Mobile is the worst offender, and unfortunately it’s who I have), it makes me jealous.

(Here from Jemjabella, btw. :P)

I was recommended to this site to try find way to delete all incomming texts in one hit-read your article regarding deleting multiple texts.

My problem is I cannot get the scroll bar to go down to mark/unmark.

Any ideas how to overcome this?

hi John,

I also find it difficult to scroll down using the touch screen.
I found a great alternative is to use the scroll button on the camera lense.
That should do it for you.

Hi John

Don’t forget that you can drag your finger up/down the screen to scroll. Took me a while to work that one out.

I have had the viewty for the last few months and I must say that I am impressed! It is a great alternative to my old MDA Vario (HTC Wizard). It feels that all the software errors from windows mobile has been removed and a good system developed. Great job. Oh and it is VERY sturdy! I accidentally dropped it on a number of occasions
and NO problem.

One thing that really bothered me was that when you write a long SMS and it approaches 2 sms length the system switches directly over to MMS. While ok this may save some cash by sending only one MMS, not all my contacts have MMS phones.

After a lot of fiddling I came up with a solution. Well when it does happen that you overflow to an MMS, delete a few characters (notice that you are still in mms mode) then press the end call button. This effectively saves the mms in the drafts but once you open it amongst the draft messages it will open as 2 smses rather than MMS.

Enjoy.

With regard to long SMS messages. Go to ‘Messaging’ - ‘Settings’ - ‘Text Message’ - ‘Send Long Text As’ and make sure ‘Multiple SMS’ is selected and not ‘MMS’

I have had the viewty for 2 months now and one thing i cant work out is how to change the way you write a text message so that you just write it on the screen and the phone works the letters out. Any ideas?

Michaela: Go to the phone settings - Connectivity - USB Settings, and set the usb to ‘Data service’. Then it should be recognized by the LG-software.. or set it to ‘Mass storage’ for reading writing to your micro sd card.

I cannot get onto the Internet. Is there a way which I can? Is it because the contract hasn’t started yet? What are those profiles I have to set? Thanks.
