My notebook addiction

The first step to overcoming a problem is to accept that you have a problem to begin with. Here goes…

my notebooks

I have an addiction to notebooks.

I can’t stop buying them!

I haven’t counted up exactly how many I have, but I think it’s around the 20 - 25 mark. I have all sorts of notebooks, and I don’t even have anything to write in them! I’m not a student anymore so I don’t have any lecture notes I could use them for.

I really should stop buying notebooks, because I have no need for them. I keep seeing new notebooks I like though, so let’s outline some of my favourites.

monster notebook

This notebook over on the left is shaped like a monster! I love monsters, and when I saw this notebook I couldn’t not buy it. That’s how much I love it. It has giant lines on the inside, which is great for me - I have giant handwriting. My handwriting is huge, and I need huge lines to match it.

Massive lines + shaped like a monster = perfect notebook for Rachael.

I just wish I had something to write in it!

my chemical romance notebook

This is my My Chemical Romance “drumline” notebook, which has characters from The Black Parade in a marching drumline on the cover. Thanks to the fabulous exchange rate between American dollars and Pounds and the fact that this was bought in a sale, I got it really cheaply! Again, though, I haven’t written a single word in it. Deary me.

octopus notebook

This notebook here on the left has Octopi on the cover. That may not be that awesome to most, but to one person in particular, I think this will be a pretty awesome notebook.

That’s why I’m off to the post office soon, to send this cute notebook out to America. Yes, Bubs, this notebook is for you!

What other notebooks do I have?

many notebooks

Sometimes I’ll come across a style of notebook that’s just completely awesome. And because I don’t keep track of notebooks that I buy, I can sometimes end up with similar ones. These four notebooks over on the right are the exact same notebook, but in four different colours. They were bought over a period of several months, and all cost less than 50p.

thick notebooks

My favourite notebooks are the ones that have millions of pages. I have several really thick notebooks (about an inch thick) that are chock full of pages I can write on at some point. The picture over on the left shows my three thickest notebooks - the notebook on the top is the purple 50p notebook, for comparison.

So where do I buy my notebooks from? Well, the 50p notebooks and the octopus notebook are from Tesco, and my thick / monster notebooks are from Paperchase. I’ve also bought a couple of notebooks from Claire’s Accessories. I love notebooks!

Now we have that out of the way, anyone have any ideas about a cure for this addiction?

I like the monster one, that’s uber :3

I do like notebooks but not on the same level as you ;) I have a nice, professional black and red one for work that is very very nearly full :(

Um. No. No ideas. I want all of your notebooks. Wow. They would go very well with my notebooks! *droools* My favourite notebooks are ones with lots of pages too. Because, even thought I don’t ACTUALLY write in them, I like to know that if I WANTED to, I could write A LOT. So… yes. I love notebooks, and I don’t think the addiction is a problem. My friends think MY addiction is a problem, because I am also addicted to ALL KINDS of stationery. Ex: on my desk I have 4 overflowing baskets of pens. I also love pens! You would think that loving pens and notebooks would result in the two being used! But, no. I love them too much to use them.

Ok I have a stationery addiction and walking past Ryman is lethal, but at least I actually use what I buy. Yours is a problem on an entirely different level. Maybe you should start writing stories… use a page for each word. :p

I used to be like you when i was younger. I was obsessed w/ buying blank notebooks. I had diff note books for everything. Multiple journals. In all types, shapes and sizes, colors, you name it! and it was so hard… *deep breath* but i shook it. I have not bough a note book in about three years? I made my self follow the rule that I wasn’t allowed to buy a new note book unless all my old ones were filled. So, good luck! *hugs*

I can never find really thick notebooks in New Zealand for less than $20. And even then, they don’t have pretty designs or anything. *sulks*

I love stationery in general so asking me to help would be silly. :P

Oh, you can send your extra notebooks my way! :D I have a notebook addiction too…and I actually use them! I don’t know how many I have either…but certainly over 10…and all used, at least in part.

My cat inherited my love for notebooks. She slept on one of the last couple of weeks. She’s on it right now.

I have the exact same addiction as you! :P I used to scour our local boookstore every weekend just so I buy the notebook with the prettiest design — which is such a waste since I never really want to write on them. I think the solution would include a lot of self-control in refraining yourself from buying more notebooks until I’ve filled out the rest. Best of luck! :P

I want to steal all of those! I collect notebooks too, and those would make a great addition to my collection :D

I used to get new ones about once a week when I worked at Borders, they have gorgeous Paperchase notebooks (and other stationery) and I got them with employee discounts. Sometimes they brought boxes full of stationery to be sold with a 75% off discount and sometimes they were just $1, and we got to pick out all we wanted to buy from the boxes before stocking the merchandise for the public. Most of the time I came out with two or three big bags full of notebooks!

I miss those times though, now when I need a notebook I have to take one from my collection and write on it. I don’t like writing on them, and my collection is getting smaller :(

Yours are lovely, don’t write on them XD

I buy notebooks that I think are cute, and can never find a use for them. :( I don’t own as many as you do though!

Also, I love Paperchase, but their stuff is eeeexpensive in NZ.

I love notebooks too; I have a ton. Your entry makes me want to pill mine up and take a photo. The thing though is that I finally stopped buying them! (YES!) … because 1/2 of mine are empty. :( And I’ve told myself that I really shouldn’t buy any more until I write in the ones that I have.

Kaylee said:

That monster notebook is awesome! But really, if you have 20-25 notebooks, how hard can it be to count them and find out exactly how many there are? ;)

I can understand why you would keep buying them, though. I find notebooks attractive, too. But somehow I resist.

OMG ASJKA;DJGA;JGAKGJAK;JGD;A You’re the best, Rachael!

*feels guilty that Rachael’s Christmas card has yet to be sent* -_-;

I’m a huge notepad fan, but I love notebooks, too!

I have more notebooks than that. Most are only a few pages full, then abandoned. Some have interesting “diary entries”, some have notes from friends, some have random story ideas, and some just have scribbles. I think I have 50 of them, dating back since I was 13 when I first fell in love with notebooks. I also have “drawing books” with blank paper not lined. I collect notebooks that a small, big, fat, chunky, skinny, pink, black, any reason at all to buy one and I buy it. The other day I was reading some of my older ones from Highschool and there were some cool notes in there from friends, and rather interesting diary posts. I also have a tiny pink one that fits in my handbag. This is my most used notebook some pages have phone numbers, some have blog ideas from ages ago, some have random drawings, theres even a small play I wrote in it out of boredom. It’s my fave notebook because it snaps closed with this elastic band thingy. Woah long comment.

Don’t worry Rachael, I love notebooks too, yet I often look out for them in paperchase… :P

I don’t have a notebook collection, but a scrap collection *points to millions of things in my room that people call trash* =D

Wow that’s a load of notebooks! I like notebooks, too, especially the cutsie ones. I don’t buy them because I think I have no use for them, but I’m so tempted to buy one when I see them in the shops.

Kim said:

I love the monster one! I also own those notebooks from Tescos, I have the purple one. :)
I like you am a notebook crazed person, many notebooks within little or nothing in them.

I have a notebook addiction as well. I think I currently have about 15 of them, all in use. They all have different purposes and I actually write to all of them, nearly daily :O

The monster notebook is just too cool. As is the MCR one :P

When I saw the title of this blog, I immediately thought, “Time to compare notebook obsessions!” I love love love them. I buy them and don’t write in them, which is why I’m trying to cut back. In fact, I was in a store that was full of notebooks, and although I could have easily bought everything there, I bought nothing. But I’ve been thinking about those beautiful notebooks for weeks.
I LOVE the monster notebook, and the one on top of it with all the cute little guys.

Annie said:

Wow! I have this thing were I buy stationary but don’t use it because it’s too nice.

Sorry to say this but I don’t think you’re notebook obsession can be helped. :P Unless…you turn your obsession to something else. I don’t know what though.

I almost bought that same monster notebook!! They actually had a different monster one with no lines and I wanted that one too! I have tons of notepads and notebooks too. Some are just too cute to use! Because if I used it, then it would be used and well… done! I am also obsessed with pens and pencils… :)

Regina said:

I have a million notebooks that are all empty!
Your monster one looks exactly like my Ipod case!

Lucy said:

The monster notebook is absolutely adorable! I love it! I actually have an addiction of my own. I’m addicted to pens. All kinds of pens, in all colors. I have so many that they’re stored in boxes. I have enough pens to give one to each student at the elementary school where I work at and probably have some left over. It’s a weird obsession, but I’ve come to terms with it. Not sure what else we can do about them!

Paperchase!!!! We have a Paperchase section at Borders, so I recognize those books!

Vera said:

You call 25 notebooks an addiction?? I have over 100 anime series (each at least 13 episodes), out of which I don’t think I’ve watched half. Some I stopped watching half way cause they bored me… now THAT is addiction… not 25 notebooks.

I also like notebooks though, the large A4 size. Especially with HP movie characters on it. But since HP is not that much of a hype here, I always think of “gawd! they’ll laugh at me if I take that to the counter… plus it’s effing expensive… I could… buy something else? Or save… or… spend frivolously on something more frivolous”. OK, I fail, my addictions are necklaces and ear rings…

Cherry said:

I have that MCR drumline notebook aswell and it still sits at the bottom of my draw, unwritten in.

Meg said:

I think it’s an addiction that doesn’t need a cure! :P I’m obsessed with stationery, too, but it’s more pencils and pens than notebooks. I have millions of writing utensils lying around.

Robmarie said:

Stationary ftw!

I *do* love notebooks, especially hard-cover ones… although I hate writing on them =(

I used to collect pencils when I was younger; I have about 180 pencils collecting dust inside a shoe box. I guess I lost interest because I didn’t narrow it down to a specific category, i.e. souvenir pencils from another country/state/town, penguin pencils, etc.

Finally — I *LOVE* mini-erasers, although I haven’t bought any in years. Back when I was a kid I used to take my mom’s Oriental Trading magazines and I would fantasize about getting the buckets full of miniature erasers, heh. Good times! =P

I collect notebooks myself, so your situation is certainly something I can relate too. It’s just so cool to have a book to write and draw in whenever the occation arises and in my life it often does seeing as I love both of these thingies :) That monster-notebook was seriously cool by the way, me like!
Otherwisely, I just have to say that I like your blog and I wish you a nice weekend!!!

Amanda said:

Oh my god I have an obsession with notebooks too! Please never get rid of your notebooks they’re too pretty! and never get rid of your addiction! Whenever I walk into a store, I just have to buy a notebook I just cant stop myself! I never use them though because they’re too pretty to use.
