Mm… juicy! » February 17th, 2008 · See comments
I love to drink orange juice! I sometimes feel that I’m single-handedly keeping the orange juice industry in business, such is the volume that I drink. If there’s no orange to drink, I just have plain water. I don’t like hot drinks, I don’t like fizzy drinks, and I don’t like other kinds of fruity drinks. It’s either got to be orange, the occasional apple and blackcurrent, or nothing.
To pay my respects to this wonderful juice, I have a new layout! It’s clean, it’s un-cluttered, and it’s yummy.
The colours are from a colour pallette called “That’s the gay one” and I made the background stripes on stripegenerator.com. So far the theme has been tested on FF2, IE7, Flock, and Safari for windows. I haven’t been able to test it in IE6 yet, but I don’t envisage any major problems there.
Please, have a poke around, and let me know about any problems you find. If anything unexpected happens, I need to know. I get uppity when my themes aren’t perfect, and I can’t fix a problem I don’t know about.
Over the next few days I’m planning a slight restructuring of the site. I’ll be adding some content, and removing some content. If anything unexpected happens, this will be why.
Right. That’s enough hard work for one day. I’m off to have some orange juice.
Aww D: I miss the rainbow nav thing, it was fun to play with :3 But the content and background are just so opposite, they need like a border or something, don’t know what color…
Wak’s is that easy to hack ;] The install file is so insecure you just run it and it resets everything and then it tells you the password (askme) in the readme.
*pokes*
It must be the colours though haha.
I love the design! It makes me feel happy
Reply: *pokes back* I’m glad you like it.
The layout is pretty, however, define alternate fonts plzkthx. I’m getting ugly Times New Roman as opposed to the pretty Calibri which is unfortunately not installed on this computer.
May I also advise more colour in the navigation and other little places (such as code text)? It seems rather segregated-esque.
Reply: Ah, thanks for reminding me about the fonts. I have several versions of the stylesheet and some of the little changes got lost along the way. I’ve added some extra font-families to the list; hopefully it should be easier on the eyes now. As for the navigation, I’m working on it!
Aww… I love this! *hugs*
But could you add “sans-serif” after calibri in font-family
Reply: *hugs back* I have added extra fonts for you. If there’s a linux-specific one you’d like, let me know, okay? I’m not really ‘down’ with linux fonts.
Hmm, I like the new layout, mainly the colours. Only problem I have (now that you fixed the font
) is the navigation. On 1024×768 the RSS feed link drops under the other links :/
Reply: Awh, it drops? Thanks for pointing that out. I shall look into that. It doesn’t drop for me, even at 800*600, but I’ll see what I can do.
I really like it – much more cheerful than your last one.
I’d like to see something different done with the comments though, something to distinguish them more. At the moment they just look like part of the blog entry in terms of appearance/etc.
Reply: Yay cheerfulness! I shall have a play with the comments and see what I can come up with. I’ll try and make more of the comment author’s name and stuff.
Ooh, it looks very nice.
It also looked nice on my phone, in case you were randomly wondering “Wow, I wonder what my new layout looks like on Aisling’s cell?”
Reply: I don’t know if I was curious about what it looked like on your specific phone, but I did test it on my own phone this morning because I was curious how it looked. Glad to hear it looks okay though! If you were randomly wondering, it also looks okay on the Viewty’s browser.
I like this one more than your last one. More bright. My only complaint would be the font size. It’s a big small for me atm.
Reply: On the PC I’m using right now, my text is the same size as yours. Hmm… If it helps, I’ve used relative font sizes, so you can increase the size yourself. I’m also working on a theme switcher, so I’ll make sure some of the other themes have bigger default text.
I like it! The colours are lovely
The only thing that’s kind of bothering me is the white space on top of the sidebar. It makes the header feel unbalanced.
Reply: I did originally have the sidebar right at the top, but it drew too much attention to the sidebar and not enough to the main content column. By moving it down that little bit, the focus of the site was back on the most important part – the content. I’m sorry that it bothers you.
I really like it! The colors are awesome. I checked it in IE6 for you. And no bugs that I can see. I have to agree w/ some of the others in terms of the navigation. Maybe adding a colored bar, (orange or yellow?) between each section. Or make the links a diff color? something to bring in more of the awesome colors you’ve chosen. and i was thinking about what Jem said… about the comments starting quickly? You could make a quirky colored sig or something to give the end of the post more defination. But all in all I love it!
Reply: Thank you for checking it in IE6! I’m working on the navigation as we speak. I hope you’ll like the changes.
The green makes me think of poopy in a baby’s diaper. Other than that, it’s very Rachael-ish I think. I wish your navigation has some neat hover effect or something other than just underlining and black.
Reply: What kind of crazy baby’s diapers have you been looking at, Ashley?
Ooh, nice. I love all the “happy” colors!
I’m not sure about the green in the background, though — it’s kind a yucky green; maybe you could make the background more yellow? And I think the navigation should be moved over to the right to balance the header out. But other than that, I have nothing to complain about!
Reply: Thanks for the suggestions, Meg. I shall have an experiment and see what I can come up with.
Oh, it’s very gay indeed! Maybe just add some more “spice” on link hovers? Either way, me likes.
Reply: I was originally inspired by the latest article on colourlovers about LGBT colours. I love rainbow colours in small doses, and so I went on the hunt for a nice rainbow-coloured pallette.
I love the colors but the font size is way too small for me
Reply: See my reply to Sarai’s comment. I have used relative font sizes, so you can enlarge the text yourself.
Very pretty! I like it lots! =) But I agree — you should add different-colored navbar link hovers or something. Navigation is a bit plain.
Reply: I’m working on it! Glad you like what I have so far though.
These colors are yummilicious! Me likes, me likes.
Reply: Glad you like it, Keira!
I quite like this layout, actually, very nicely done! Perhaps the Calm Banana portion of the text could be a slightly prettier font, but good work nonetheless!
Reply: The title is set to be Cambria. If you don’t have Cambria, it should be Georgia, and if you don’t have Georgia, it should be your standard serif font. I welcome any suggestions you have for the font though.
Am I in the right website? – that’s what I thought as soon as I saw all the colors
I love the new look, you kept the clean look of the previous layout and added nice bright colors. Me love :3
Reply: Yes, you’re in the right website!
Hehe we all have our addictions. I’d almost boast that I might just keep Coca Cola’s selling figures up, but then I have a colleague who drinks at least twice as much as me
Nice layout, the green background is a bit… dunno I’m not quite keen on this shade. But otherwise looks good.
By the way… when I typed in your address I got a to blank white page that only had the text “Welcome!” on it… I had to go back at Snark and click on the link in the I Just Blogged section… @_@ any ideas why?
Reply: Did you go to calmbanana.com by any chance? Someone seems to have registered that and put up the welcome message. It’s not me!
Whoa, this is an odd color scheme. An oddly named color scheme, too, but hey. I can’t say I hate the combination. The background color’s not quite my cup of tea, but I like the rest of the colors.
When I was a kid, I used to drink orange juice almost daily. Now it’s apple juice for me. I don’t know when or why I made the change.
Reply: Odd in a good way, or odd in a bad way? I can accept it not being your cup of tea, so hopefully you’ll like one of my other themes more.
Oh yes…very juicy!
But that reminds me of strawberry more than banana LOL.
Another thing…I prefer another background color. I’m not sure. Other yellow would look great.
Reply: Juicy is good though, right? Thanks for the feedback, Diane. I’ll have a look into the background colour.
Ohh :O It’s wider now, it makes it better. And did you make that pattern thinner? If you did, it looks better
I agree with the comments, I kept scrolling until I noticed I went too far xD
Don’t drink to much orange juice! It’s acidic and in overly large quantities can give you stomach ulcers.
There’s a way to sink your boat! Also, Love the new layout- it’s very bright but well done : )
Wicked colour scheme – and what a name to go with it. Looks fine on my normal PC – too bad my Asus doesn’t agree with anything larger than 700px! Awh, you know I’m only teasing right?
Reply: You’d better be teasing. 700px seems to be an odd resolution. This theme works fine on my phone (320 / 400 pixels) and it’s okay at 800*600, but for some reason 700px seems to confuse everything.
I really like this layout. The color scheme makes me want orange juice. *goes to kitchen* Hmmph. No orange juice at the house. Oh, well. Your ask me page coding is a little off on my computer. The white background doesn’t stretch throughout the whole page like your other pages (theres an odd greenish background showing up.) Just wanted to let you know. (:
Reply: Yeah, I know the theme is a little ‘off’ on my faq page. That’s why I’ve taken all links to the page down for now.
This theme is you.
Better then some of the themes you have had in the past.
This colour palette reall IS quite “orange juicy”! It’s clever! I never used to like orange juice, but I do now, it’s great.
Your Blog looks Wonderful the colors are vibrant and They fit very well
It looks Great On opera aswell
