Bucketman, the unexpected visitor

I rarely talk about what happens “in the office”, but today the strangest thing happened and I wanted to share it. Where I work is out in the countryside somewhere, and we don’t get a lot of visitors, certainly none that turn up unexpected.

At about half past ten this morning, a white car pulled up in the car park. “Who’s this?” we wondered. A man got out and went to the back of his car and pulled out a bucket.

“Who’s this, and why does he have a bucket?”

The next thing we know, this man starts walking across the gravel to our door. We were getting rather curious / freaked out. Who was this mysterious man with his mysterious bucket?

The door opened and he stepped inside.

“Um… hi,” I stuttered. “Can we help you?”  I asked unsurely, looking him up and down. He had no visible means of identification. He wasn’t wearing a shirt with his company logo on or anything. Just jeans and a jumper… and a bucket.

“Yes,” he replied, sounding friendly. “I’m here to service your water cooler.”

Things people have yet to invent

You’d think with all the technology and great minds we have in the world today, there’d be nothing left to invent. Wrong!

Self-cleaning cars

I suck at cleaning my car. I always seem to miss bits on the side, I’m not tall enough to do the roof, and my arms aren’t long enough to reach all of the windscreen. And it’s not like I even have a massive car. I have a Volkswagen Fox. It’s the smallest VW you can buy, and yet parts of it are still too big for me to clean.

Self-upgrading wordpress

I know you can get one-click upgrade plugins, but these are complicated and require you to change permissions on your folders which can be dangerous. Besides, one click is one too many! I want wordpress to be able to upgrade itself.

Self-fixing lightbulbs

I wish they could just “un” explode.

Self-recording Televisions

I don’t want to have to tell my TV to record a programme, I want it to know. I also want it to record programmes which it thinks I might like. Television would be a lot more interesting that way.

Now, I realise that this means a big leap forward in terms of Artificial Intelligence and whathaveyou, but I can dream, right? What do you think I’ve missed off this list?

Where on Earth do I start?

Ever since I cleaned up my inbox, I’ve been on a bit of a cleaning spree. My desk at work is tidy, by SMS inbox on my phone is tidy. All is almost right in the world. Almost.

But where on Earth am I supposed to start with this :
