I hate flash!
I hate social networks, and I also hate flash! Sure, flash has some bonuses, but to me flash is the following:
- A way to annoy your visitors
- A way to confuse your visitors
I don’t like being annoyed, and I don’t like being confused. I don’t want you to give me music on your site. Your site is not a jukebox, and my iTunes is playing better music than you anyway. I don’t want to see youtube videos embedded in your site. A simple text link is much nicer and faster to load.
I don’t want to see you have a pet animal in your sidebar - I have my own dog to play with. I don’t need you to give me a flash clock (I have a watch for that), and I don’t need flash sudoku or any other silly game like that.
And don’t even get me started on flash adverts! I don’t need a free ipod, I highly doubt I’ve won a holiday, and if I hear buzzing one more time, my laptop is going out of the window. And it will be all your fault, Mr Flash.
The only good thing, to me, about flash, is that the add-on isn’t installed in my copy of IE6. I also don’t have administrator privileges on that computer, so even if I wanted to install the add-on (which I don’t), I couldn’t.
What annoys you most about flash? Or are you one of these crazy people who enjoys it?

*stabs flash* WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO LOAD?!?!!?
Umm… yes. That’s all, really.
On the other hand, I adore flash animation, even if I suck at it. It’s fun, and easier than, say… hand-drawing it, scanning each frame, and putting it together. Computer tech is always better. With the exception of flip books. Flip books will rock my world, and pwn digital, until I die.
lol talk about a hatred :p
I also find it incredibly annoying - mostly the ones that play sound when you’re trying to listen to music or something.
There are two ways to do Flash - the right and wrong way. You’ve just listed the wrong ways, and managed to forget those slideshow things
The right ways would be conceptual websites like Soulbath, Jodi, etc. It can add subtle interactivity to websites by replacing static banners. It can even be used as an accessibility tool but that takes more skill than I’m willing to get into.
I use Flash the right way
I like flash for more “stand-alone” things, like games.
Eurgh, I hate flash too! It’s so useless. Well, it can be good for navigation and when used in small amounts. But I freaking hate it when it’s used to play music! Ack. So annoying. D:
I’ve always had a thing against flash. Usually because my internet connection is fast at all, and it takes years to load a website that could be easily presented in simple, tidy HTML Also, it takes away my right-clicking abilities! Well… I have a manic obsession with right-clicking and if I get the same flash player menu everything I right click I freak out.
I hate social networking too. I have no myspace, no face book. etc etc.. and I was with you on the flash rant untill you reached clocks. then i was like.. all sheepish and wanted to hide thinking… i really like my clock, it’s so cute and it makes me happy. So Oh well, i can only hope my site doesnt annoy you ^^
Oh I thought you meant flash as those in the site design itself. The ones in most corporate headers look nice, but the ads/random widgets are just plain annoying.
I’m annoyed at the fact that I can’t do proper sites with flash. Plus I don’t know how to use action script!
I hate flash because it’s so difficult to create the most simple things, I had to use it back in college and I hated it.
Flash does annoy me quite a lot, but if it’s used in the wrong way. I once made a really nice wordpress theme, where the header was flash, it was a traced bitmap header of a beach with some lovely flashy buttons, that made a nice noise when hovered over, it look rite nice, I was very proud of it actually. But that was not very big in size and loaded instantly. Sounds crap now I’m explaining it, but honestly, it was really good!
Also the header I made my brother is flash and has lovely stars falling down it, as his theme is cosmic. I love it, I do! So if it’s used little, and looks nice I have no problem with it. My old housemate (and I did once) made his whole web site in flash, with no text, I bet the SEO for that is TERRIBLE… Luckily I changed my own site, and did it with xhtml/css and it can be found a lot more easily via google et al now!
I also hate those big brands for the big flash web sites they make, I can never be bothered looking at the intro or waiting for the site to load, so I end up just leaving.
I enjoy working with Flash, it can do some pretty amazing things. What I don’t like is, as you’ve mentioned, Flash being used and abused for random unnecessary ads and accessories. How are you supposed to take in a site’s information when you have music blaring and ads flying at you?
There are a lot of users who enjoy being distracted by 4309597 moving things. Chances are, that if you’ve never built a website, you’re likely to enjoy it.
If you did, you’re likely to want to strangle it.
I think it can do nifty stuff, but I’m sure I can do without all that nifty stuff as well
That buzzing flash ad is the bane of my existance, it’s always around. Ugh! *Stabs it*
Flash doesn’t bother me.
Music on sites is evil. I do not get why people put music players on their sites.
Other than that I have no problems with flash, I will never use one of the flash clocks offered at sites or anything like that, but I don’t care if people have them on their sites. Unnecesary, yes, but that’s up to them.
Well thats why you have a prefabricated cardboard box website and i have a “flash os”
Enjoy your blog , nothing says uninspired like virtical lines of text
