I’ve been tagged… twice

Oh no! I’ve been tagged twice! Thanks so much, Jessica and Hev. I really appreciate it. I’ve actually already talked a lot about myself recently, but here goes…

The Rules

  1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself: some random, some weird.
  3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names and link to them.
  4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blog.

My Facts

  1. I’m about three inches smaller than my supposedly “little” sister, and it really bugs me! I wish I was taller. It’s not fair that my younger sister is taller than me!
  2. Like many other women drivers, I’m terrible at parking. Although, I have been improving in recent times. I never did a parallel park in the two years after my test, but now I don’t even get nervous anymore. I pull up, take a deep breath, and park. Simple!
  3. I run like Mr Bean.
  4. I went to a posh grammar school where the biggest fight we had was when someone threw a flapjack at someone else. Oh the violence!
  5. I love Bob the Builder, and have a Bob the Builder duvet on my bed.
  6. I’m always correcting other people. It’s such a bad habit of mine and it annoys so many people. I can’t help it though!
  7. When I’m in the shower, I like to make a mohawk in my hair using shampoo.

There we go; my seven facts. I hope they are suitably random and weird. Now I have to tag people, but I don’t know who to tag! Let’s go with… you! Yes. If you are reading this, consider yourself tagged.

On web design portfolios

Pixel Implosion

This site is so simple, yet so effective. The background has a subtle yet striking dark grey gradient, and the soft rounded corners of the div containers make me go weak at the knees. I love it.

Pixel Oli

This site sounds quite strange when I say that it has a deep blue background with a rainbow and a street light, but when you actually see it, it’s so beautifully laid out, and it works on all (well, all the ones I’ve tried) screen resolutions.

Joseph Szilagyi

Normally I hate websites that use flash, because of all the bad experiences I’ve had with them. However, this site doesn’t annoy me in any way at all! It’s a rather inverse design, in that the background is the foreground and the foreground is the background. Visit the site to see what I mean. To me it kind of looks like a cushion that has been ripped over to reveal the insides.

AppeltjeQ

Clean, simple designs are always my favourite, and this is no exception. This site also uses green, which is my favourite colour. It’s a one page portfolio and I really like the way in which the separate sections are held together with paperclips.

Valentina Olini

Valinentina is one very talented Italian! Her site is so cute and colourful, without being over the top. It’s one of the few websites that I would hug if I could. It has stripes, and flowers, and rainbows… It’s so huggable!

I’m currently trying to design my own portfolio and these sites I’ve listed above are just making me depressed and self-doubting. My strengths really do lie with HTML / CSS, and I’ve never been amazing at graphics. Equally, though, I don’t suck, so maybe I’ll go for something really clean and simple. But then, what if it turns out too simple and becomes dull? Aargh, I’m so confused!

I won an award!

Rhiannon recently had a competition to see who could make the worst webpage. You know, following stereotypes like weborexia, glitters, flashy text, animated pictures, tiny text with even smaller line-heights… That kind of thing.

There was a grand total of twenty-five participants whose site were literally rubbish. But, rubbish was the whole point!

After a few days voting, the winners were announced, and I was one of them!

So which award did I win?

Yes, that’s the one. It was decided that my rubbish site wasn’t actually that bad! What do you think then, should I use it for my next layout?
