5 apps I can’t live without

Sarah was tagged and I stole this from her. Here below you can find a screenshot of my desktop, as well as a list of 5 applications I cannot live without!

my desktop

iTunes

I am a music addict! iTunes supplies me with all my music, videos, and podcasts. I have an ipod mini, and ipod shuffle, an ipod nano, and I love all three of them! I’ve never liked Windows Media Player, but I’m glad to say that iTunes does more than a brilliant job of replacing it.

Firefox

In modern times you can customise pretty much everything. With Firefox, you can now customise your web browser. I use a theme which makes Firefox look like it belongs on Vista (I was fed up with it looking out of place on my new laptop), and I use various add-ons to help with my web developing. Oh, there’s also an add-on which will let you control iTunes.

Faststone Photo Resizer

This program has been a lifesaver! It’ll batch-resize, crop, tag, and rename pictures for you. Perfect when making thumbnails or renaming pictures from “SSL24150″ to “duck1″. I really do recommend it to everyone. Plus it’s free and that’s rarely a bad thing…

GIMP and Notepad++. I’ve covered these before, though, so I won’t go into them again. This just shows how much I love them though!

Can we get you a Mac? :)

^ If you’re offering to pay for it or start a “Let’s buy Rachael a Mac” fund! I used to use an old powermac when I was younger (OS9.1 for the win!) but in recent times I’ve used windows because of the practicalities…

I’m tempted to tag myself…

^ I do hereby tag you, Smith.

Great suggestions! I will check out the batch resize tool because I don’t have one and have been looking for a good app. Thank you Rachael :)

You have a nice recycle bin on your desktop!

The only applications I share with you are Notepad++ and Firefox. Faststone seems like a must-have, though…

Hmm, maybe it’s time for me to be tagged. Tag me, Rachael? Purdy please?

Lil said:

Can it be /our/ Mac? :D

Hmmm is it just me or has your Feedburner gone from three to two readers? Wtf? I have you in my RSS toolbar, quick access to Calm Bananay-ness.

I don’t know what my top five apps would be. Firefox is definitely one of them, I’m with you on that! Maybe I’ll tag myself too.

@Kaylee - that’s the Vista recycling bin. It’s sexy. Much as people slate Vista, you can’t deny it’s much more aesthetically pleasing than XP.

Yay iTunes and Firefox! I never really liked Windows Media Player either. :\

The TA made us use Notepad++ in an elective class I took last semester. It’s not so bad. I’ve just been using Crimson Editor for the last couple of years, which does the same thing with syntax highlighting as Notepad++, so I didn’t find much to impress me. That and I found the auto-formatting of comments in HTML documents highly annoying (I’ve grown out of Comic Sans a loong time ago, haha). XD

Tag me too!

But yay for GIMP. Even though I use PSCS these days, I could go back to the GIMP if need be. I need to write some more about the GIMP, though.

Lol, the Vista recycle bin is tres sexy. But yours is so big! I made my icon things the smallest possible.
I only have FF, Notepad & iTunes… not too sure bout the others.

Lene said:

Nice suggestions, Firefox FTW!
I’d never heard of that notepad++

*checks out*

But yours is so big

Seeing as how the recycle bin is the only icon on my desktop, I made it massive! I like it like that.

iTunes is yicky, it takes of lots and lots of resources on older systems (i.e. my circa 2004 laptop) and skips a lot and it was hard for me to listen to what I wanted to listen to because the library was so slow and hard to add things to it and etc etc etc.

I’m a big Winamp fan when I’m on Windows, but on Linux, mpd + ncmpc is where it’s at! 1mb of RAM is where it’s at :p

Out of your list I use FireFox and GIMP but I may try out that photo resizer :).

I like the interface of Vista. The bin on Vista looks better than that on XP.

Katherine said:

Lol, other than FF & Safari it’s the only one I’ve got too. I guess maybe I’m just a freak and don’t like massive icons :/
